Puff Pastry Apple Turnovers
This is one of the simplest apple puff pastry recipes to try at home. With the goodness of apple and ground cinnamon, these pastries will surely make you happy at the breakfast table.
- 3-4 cups apples (peeled and chopped)
- 4 cups of water
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 Tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 cup brown sugar
- Package puff pastry sheets (frozen & thawed)
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp. milk
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 2 Tsp. vanilla extract
In a large bowl, combine the lime juice and water. Add the sliced apples in this water solution. Preheat your oven to 392°F or 200 degrees C. Now, melt butter in a pan and drain the apples to add in this pan. Cook this syrup for about 2-3 minutes. Next, add cinnamon and brown sugar while constantly stirring. Make a cornstarch solution with some water and add this solution to the pan. Mix and cook for 2 minutes.
Take the puff pastry sheets and unfold them. Trim every sheet into a large square and further into 4 smaller squares. Now place apples in the center of every square. Next, fold and make triangular shape pasties. Bake these apple turnovers for about 25 minutes. Allow these turnovers to cool entirely and then do glazing. For glazing, blend together vanilla extract, milk, and confectioners’ sugar. Pour the glaze over the apple puff pastry and serve!
Caged Apple Puff Pastry
This recipe is a bit similar to the turnover recipe except for the fact that it uses lesser ingredients. Plus, it is more appealing than traditional turnovers.
- 1 puff pastry sheet (frozen & thawed)
- 2 apples (peeled and halved)
- 1 Tsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- 1 egg wash
- 1 Tsp. sugar
Cut the pastry sheet into 8 equally-sized squares. Take one square and make five equal cuts on the two sides. Now make 3 vertical cuts between the edges of the uncut sides as well as the two slits on the cut square sides. Repeat this pattern for 3 more squares. Set these caged patterns aside. Now take 4 simple squares and place apple halves in the center of each square. Apply egg wash on the side of these squares and then apply cinnamon, sugar, and butter wash over the apples. Now take the caged squares and stretch them over the apples of every square. Press the dough bottom to seal the squares. Further, brush with egg wash and dust some coarse sugar over the squares. Preheat your over to 200˚C and then bake the pastries for about 20 minutes until the pastries are puffed.
